Along the Prom, Prom...

Last Sunday evening found me back once again at Clifton Park Hotel in St Annes, performing to a sizeable audience, many of whom had attended Lytham 1940s over the two days, and so were in good spirits and ready for some more 40s entertainment.

I wasn't sure how many guests would stay the distance, given how much they'd already packed in to the weekend, but was delighted to see a packed room both at the start and at the end of the evening. A fair number of familiar faces, too.

In view of the fact that most had an early departure the following day, I decided to go all the way through without an interval. As any entertainer will tell you, reading the room and trying to build a connection with the audience is paramount, and happily I was quickly as relaxed and enjoying the show as my audience clearly were.

It never ceases to amaze how quickly the time flies by when you have that harmony between performer and audience - and I was surprised when the familiar opening to White Cliffs of Dover signalled to me that it was time to go into my signature Last Night of the Proms-style finale, at the end of which I invited those who could to join me on the dance floor for the farewell number, We'll Meet Again. "Thank you. Such a great evening, Jane," a lady said afterwards. Which, of course, is exactly what any entertainer wants to hear - and I'm no different. It was a great night.
